Words from The Stoop Kid

203rd Day.

Mondays are nobody’s best friend. It’s the start of work weeks and school days. It’s so ironic that the word “Monday” sounds like “mundane”.

… Moving right along.

Service Marketing is a fairly easy class. It’s an entire semester on ethics. Our assignment over the weekend was to write a story about our hero. Simple, right? Today, a Taiwanese kid decided to share his story with the class. It was pretty unexciting. His hero was his aunt. She motivated him to do better with his life. The part that really got me was, when she suggested that he move to another country, he did it. Let’s wrap our minds around this: The kid is already poor. His father works on the Chinese mainland. And the aunt suggests that he move to America where college is easier to get into & cheaper. That blew my mind. Could you imagine? Going overseas for FOUR years to get an education? Going to a place where they don’t speak the same language as you? I was shocked. Sometimes, we as Americans can be spoiled & unappreciative. By “sometimes”, I mean “often/everyday”. There are people in this world who are willing to leave it all behind just to come over here and TRY to succeed. We live here. It’s much easier for us to fail, go home, and try again the next day. Still, some of us (I’m speaking to myself now) are so afraid of failure that we never go for it. Let this man be a testament. Pick something you really want. REALLY WANT. Then go for it. And if you don’t get it. Re-evaluate. Then go for it again. I don’t know what the end of this week holds for me and my future. I pray good things. I WILL be devastated if I don’t get the position at Ole Miss. No doubt about it. Still, I know that the end of the world is coming but this? This is not it.
